BEING TRUE TO YOURSELF

When I was a child I wanted to be a labor and delivery nurse. Specific for a 6 year old, right? I loved babies and I thought the best job ever would be to help bring them into the world. Around age 13, I decided I wanted to be a fashion designer. I had discovered my creative self and it totally changed my world. Since then I’ve always known I was a creative and I wanted to create.

Over the years it’s been fashion, music, poetry, jewelry, cooking, etc. I feel so alive creating things. As I got older, however, I allowed fear and the opinions and doubts of others to convince me that I needed to do something else; that I needed take another route to be successful. Sadly, I even adopted some of those opinions and doubts as my own. The thing is, they were never meant to occupy space in my heart. So I always felt the internal struggle of being the person that I knew I was versus the person I felt pressured to be.

Let me tell you, being someone you’re not is exhausting and miserable. Be true to yourself! Psalm 139:14 says that we are fearfully and wonderfully made! Believe it! There is only one you and you have a unique contribution that only you can make to the world. I’ve found life to be so much more fulfilling when I became true to myself.

Amen to that!!! I’ve changed my career goals many a times but I always found my way back to my true passion, singing! Although I am going to school for sports and fitness (my other passion) my love for music and singing has never left. The devil tried to instill fear in my by causing me to have stage fright but the Lord dealt with that in time and now no one can keep me from belting it out when I want to. 🙂

We may try to wander away from our passion but it never leaves us. Some way or another we find ourselves right back in front of that passion staring it in the eyes. Thank you for sharing that! I wish you all the best with both your singing and sports/fitness endeavors!
