MY THAILAND ADVENTURE
Traveling the world and exploring different cultures has always been something I wanted to do but didn’t believe that I could. So this year when my best friend asked me to go to Thailand with her and some friends my first reaction to smile and say “that would be so cool” while already telling myself “you cant possibly afford to do that”. My friend was so excited and immediately went on to start researching and planning. I immediately went on to start formulating my excuse as to why I couldn’t go so I could smoothly decline when we she presented me with her findings.
Then it hit me. The money would be spent whether I went on this trip or not, so why not say yes to Thailand? “You’re not getting any younger,” I thought. “And there’s nothing standing in your way right now so do it!” I did! And it was amazing! I’ve been back for about a month and I’ve had time to fall back into my usual routine, organize hundreds of photos and videos, and write this awesome post reflecting on it all. I wanted to share with you all some of my favorite pictures and some of the most memorable parts of this trip.
First off, I have to acknowledge that most the defining part of this trip was that no matter where I was in Thailand my blackness preceded me. Everyone looked at me in awe admiring my skin and hair. Some people came up to compliment me and others just stared or pulled out their phones to snap photos. I found it quite interesting, though, that skin whitening was so prevalent there. Everywhere you turned there were skin bleaching ads and products for both women and men. It’s kind of sad that the same people that were praising me for my dark skin felt obligated to slather on bleaching creams to be more white.
Power lines on power lines! I was amazed at how many there were.
The beautiful architecture.
And the beaches! Honey, the beaches were amazing! The water was so clear. It was beautiful. Just the landscape itself was a sight to see. The last picture was taken on the side of the road. We just stopped and pulled out our cameras to capture a shot of the ocean peaking through this beautiful opening in the trees.
Our beach photoshoots were so much fun. We weren’t playing with those shots!
Check out this enormous snail! I snapped this shot as my friends and I tried durian for the first time. I hated it but I’m glad I gave it try.
Altars everywhere. Big and small. On street corners. At the entrance of nearly every building. In taxis. Everywhere.
The driving here is not for the faint of heart. Im not sure that any traffic laws exist outside of stopping at red lights. Everything else goes! You just get in where you fit in at a round about. Motor bikes do whatever they want. Cars can pick a lane, or two, or three! Just look at this photo! On the far left there’s a car parked on the road facing oncoming traffic. And how about the moped on the far right calmly driving in the “wrong” direction?!
Lastly, these are some of my favorite photos of me (and my friends) that were taken on the trip.
I’m so happy I didn’t deny myself this experience. I was worried about the money and it turned out to be so much more affordable than I thought. It was worth every penny spent! I look forward to going back, next time with the hubby. If you would like to see videos of the trip I’ve uploaded a 3 part series of my Thailand adventures to my vlogging channel on Youtube.
